Metagenomics of the Hot Springs of Central India
We have carried out the largest metagenomic sequencing and analysis of hot springs in Central India including Tattapani (61.5–98°C) and Anhoni (43.5–55°C) hot springs. The analysis revealed hydrocarbon degrading thermophiles and pathways essential for the survival of thermophilic microbial communities in these extreme environments. Genes associated with hydrocarbon degradation pathways, such as benzoate, xylene, toluene, benzene, and methane metabolism were observed to be abundant, along with several novel findings.
